Facebook move to virtual reality for sports venues
Facebooks F8 conference was packed with announcements and updates this week around its product lineup, including the core Facebook app, Instagram, Oculus, and WhatsApp.
Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg unveiled several updates from new dating services to virtual reality headsets.
More importantly is that Facebook plans to launch a virtual reality “Venues” app next year that Mark Zuckerberg says will allow people to “watch live concerts, and live sports, and premieres of movies and TV shows, all around the world with friends” and other people.
The move to virtual reality using Oculus technology will create stiff competition for current third-party streaming apps like FoxVR, LiveLike and industry leader NextVR.
There will be an important shift to monitor in the way fans engage and respond with ‘Oculus Venues’ as this could have an impact on the way clubs interact with their fans moving forward.
